Baku pushes transit hub role at talks with UN trade chief
Azerbaijani FM Jeyhun Bayramov has met with Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), to discuss expanding global trade links, regional energy security, and the economic impact of Middle East tensions. The meeting highlighted Azerbaijan’s role as a transit and logistics hub and underscored ongoing cooperation with the United Nations.
The meeting addressed a wide range of topics, including prospects for Azerbaijan-UN cooperation, regional and international developments, the situation in the Middle East, and the impact of ongoing conflicts on the global economy and trade, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry.
The officials exchanged views on Azerbaijan’s initiatives in energy security, trade, investment, communications, transport, economic diversification, and sustainable development.
FM Bayramov highlighted Baku’s policy to expand both regional and global trade connections, strengthen transport and logistics infrastructure, advance energy projects, and develop international trade corridors. He stressed the importance of enhancing Azerbaijan’s role as a transit and logistics hub, particularly through the Middle Corridor.
The discussion also examined the repercussions of escalating tensions and the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, with both sides expressing concern over the broader regional and economic impact.
