Drones strike major Russian oil refinery in Leningrad region
Ukrainian drones targeted the Kirishinefteorgsintez (KINEF) oil refinery in Kirishi, Leningrad Region, on October 4, one of Russia’s key energy infrastructure facilities.
According to Russian regional authorities and local Telegram channels, a fire broke out in the industrial zone, prompting emergency services to respond, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.
Leningrad region Governor Alexander Drozdenko stated that Russian air defence forces intercepted seven drones during the attack. Eyewitnesses, however, reported multiple strikes on the plant, suggesting at least four direct hits.
Located over 800 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, KINEF is owned by Surgutneftegaz and is among Russia’s largest oil refineries, with an annual processing capacity exceeding 10 million tons of crude oil.
The facility produces gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and other petroleum products, supplying a substantial portion of Russia’s domestic fuel demand.
