Envoy: Armenia has yet to plead guilty to Khojaly atrocities
Armenia has not recognised its guilt in the atrocities committed in Khojaly even after 31 years.
The statement came from Ambassador for Special Assignments of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Elshad Isgandarov at a roundtable with the participation of representatives of the international coalition “Khojaly: Recognise for Reconciliation”, where peace and transitional justice were discussed.
He added that the main proposal of the international coalition "Khojaly: Recognise for Reconciliation" is to use the mechanism of so-called transitional justice, which consists of having the party that committed the crime admit its guilt.
He added that this mechanism is now very widely used in different formats as a method of achieving reconciliation between the parties.
"But unfortunately, Armenia has not admitted its guilt for the atrocities committed in Khojaly, even after 31 years," he said.
He thanked the coalition for its fruitful work and spoke about the Second Karabakh War, stressing that Azerbaijan is now focused on justice and peace and is ready to open a new page of history.
The discussion was organised by the Eurasia Regional Centre (ERC) of the Youth Forum for Islamic Cooperation.
