Envoy: Latvia fully supports Azerbaijan's sovereignty, territorial integrity

28 November 2024 12:07

Latvia expects a visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in 2025, said Latvian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Edgar Skuja.

“We have conveyed an invitation from the President of Latvia to the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to visit the country next year. So this is another very high-level event,” Skuja said at the Azerbaijan-Latvia Information and Networking Meeting on November 28, Caliber.Az reports.

The ambassador also added that Latvia plans to hold a meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission between Azerbaijan and Latvia next year.

Skuja emphasized that Latvia fully supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

“Politically, we always emphasize our full support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. We are very optimistic about the development of the country, regions, as well as Karabakh, which is developing rapidly and, I am sure, will become one of the most beautiful regions of the republic,” he emphasized.

Azerbaijan and Latvia have been cultivating a strong bilateral relationship, marking 30 years of diplomatic ties in 2024.

In January this year, Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev recently highlighted the growing partnership between the two countries, noting that their cooperation has now reached a strategic level. This cooperation spans several domains, including trade, energy, and political collaboration. Latvia has been a consistent supporter of Azerbaijan's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and both countries are looking to enhance their collaboration further, particularly within the framework of the European Union

Another key aspect of the bilateral ties is Azerbaijan's energy exports, particularly natural gas, which play a significant role in Latvia's energy diversification goals. Additionally, Latvia has expressed interest in contributing to Azerbaijan’s green transition, with projects that support sustainable development goals. This includes initiatives related to clean energy and environmental stewardship, seen in recent collaborative agreements

Furthermore, there is strong collaboration in educational exchanges, technology, and economic forums aimed at strengthening bilateral relations
