Georgia triples fines for environmental violations
Georgia is set to significantly increase penalties for environmental violations, according to a report by Sputnik Georgia’s Telegram channel.
The parliament is reviewing amendments that tighten sanctions for industrial facilities, construction projects, mining companies, and other entities.
Fines for operating without an environmental permit or altering operational conditions without authorization will triple to 30,000 lari ($11,200), while repeat violations will be penalized with fines of up to 50,000 lari ($18,600).
Under the proposed changes, enforcement officers will be authorized to issue fines on the spot and publish them online if the violator has not received formal notification. Authorities expect the new measures to boost state budget revenues.
