Transport Prosecutor of Kazakhstan’s Mangystau region Abilaybek Ordayev has said that two flight recorders were found and will be handed over to the Aviation Accidents and Incidents Investigation Division for further examination.
“We have interrogated the injured people and ground service personnel. We are also identifying all eyewitnesses. The radio communications between the air traffic controllers and the flight crew have been seized. The investigation of the crash site, covering over 4,000 square meters, is nearing completion. The area is being secured by the police,” he noted, Caliber.Az reports, citing Kazakh media.
The crash occurred on December 25, when an Embraer aircraft operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, en route from Baku to Grozny, tragically crashed near Aktau. The plane was carrying 67 people, including 37 Azerbaijanis, 16 Russians, 6 Kazakhs, and 3 Kyrgyz nationals. Sadly, 38 people lost their lives in the crash, with 29 survivors. In response, President Ilham Aliyev declared a day of mourning in Azerbaijan on December 26 to honour those lost in the tragedy.
