Kyrgyzstan foils terror attack on Orthodox church
Employees of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan have successfully prevented a planned terrorist attack that members of the Islamic State (ISIS) intended to commit before the New Year.
During counter-terrorist operations in the city of Jalal-Abad, underage members of the international terrorist organisation Islamic State-Wilayat Khorasan were detained, TASS reports, citing the Committee.
They had been recruited through the Internet and were planning to place an improvised explosive device near the main Christmas tree in the central square of Jalal-Abad and to attack the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the same city on the instructions of foreign intermediaries.
The Committee emphasised that due to prompt actions it was possible to prevent the planned terrorist acts and to protect the residents of the city. At present, the detainees are under investigation, and law enforcement agencies continue their work to identify and suppress the actions of terrorist groups.
