Large gas field discovered in Georgia

A natural gas deposit containing 16 billion cubic meters of reserves has been discovered in Georgia.

The announcement was made by the head of the State Oil and Gas Agency of the country, Giorgi Tatishvili in an interview with Business Media, Report informs.

He said that the reserves were discovered in a well drilled by Schlumberger company near Tbilisi.

Tatishvili noted that horizontal drilling is required in the licensed area.

The head of the agency noted that if the field is fully exploited, Georgia could fully satisfy its demand for natural gas within eight years.

Schlumberger has been searching for natural gas reserves in Georgia since 2018.
