Latvia backs Azerbaijan's territorial integrity, wishes it peace with Armenia
Latvian Parliament Speaker Daiga Mierina has said that Latvia supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
She made the remarks during a press conference in Baku on May 20, Report informs.
The Speaker noted that the purpose of her visit was to deepen inter-parliamentary cooperation between the countries.
"In addition to the existing close cooperation between parliamentary friendship groups, we discussed the possibility of establishing closer cooperation between various committees or commissions of our parliaments. For example, in the field of education, culture, establishing student exchanges between our countries and many other possibilities," she said.
She further went on to say that Latvia is interested in establishing a lasting peace between Baku and Yerevan.
"I wish Azerbaijan and Armenia to achieve complete peace," she said.
Mierina also congratulated Azerbaijan on the progress made in the peace talks with Armenia.
According to her, the more representatives of the international community go to Karabakh, the more awareness there will be of what has been happening there: "Yesterday [May 19] in Karabakh we saw with our own eyes how quickly the region is developing. We saw new airports, new schools, buildings. We also visited Shusha. Karabakh is rapidly recovering and developing, we are sincerely happy to see this.”
