Moscow frames EU envoys’ outreach through Pushkin literary reference
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova commented on the reported request by the ambassadors of Britain, France, and Germany to meet at the Russian Foreign Ministry by citing lines from a poem by Alexander Pushkin.
“I clearly remember how, a couple of years ago, these same countries’ ambassadors refused to meet with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The minister has spoken about this repeatedly,” Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel.
She then referenced Pushkin’s poem “I Remember a Wonderful Moment”, writing: “The years flew quickly. The storm's blast scattered the dreams of former times.”
“And now they are at the doorstep asking to be received,” the official spokesperson added.
Earlier, the ambassadors of France, the United Kingdom, and Germany—Nicolas de Rivière, Nigel Casey, and Alexander Lambsdorff—were received by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin. The meeting lasted about an hour and a half.
