MP: Lachin’s liberation marks Azerbaijan’s victory in both diplomacy and military power
The liberation of Lachin without a single shot being fired stands as both a military triumph and a political-diplomatic success for Azerbaijan, declared Sabina Salmanova, a member of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis (Parliament).
Her remarks highlighted the significance of the December 1, 2020, liberation achieved through the trilateral agreement following Azerbaijan’s victory in the Patriotic War, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
“Liberating Lachin was not just a historic event but also a strategic milestone. Azerbaijan regained territorial integrity and restored control over its state borders,” Salmanova emphasized.
She praised President Ilham Aliyev’s farsighted leadership, attributing this success to his strategic approach as Azerbaijan’s victorious commander-in-chief.
Tragic history of occupation
Salmanova recalled that Lachin was occupied by Armenian forces on May 18, 1992, leading to widespread destruction.
“Over 200 cultural sites, more than 100 educational and medical facilities, and approximately 500 commercial and infrastructural objects were looted and demolished. Historical monuments faced vandalism, while Armenia grossly violated Geneva Conventions through illegal actions like altering geographical names, plundering resources, and changing the region’s demographic composition,” she said.
Despite witnessing these crimes, the international community largely remained silent. “By liberating Lachin, Azerbaijan restored international law,” Salmanova added.
A return to life
The MP noted the extensive reconstruction and resettlement efforts underway in Lachin. Displaced residents are returning to their homes, including in Zabukh and Sus villages.
“Lachin and other liberated regions are transforming into some of the most beautiful corners of the world,” she concluded, expressing optimism about the region’s revival.
This restoration of life and justice in Lachin exemplifies Azerbaijan’s commitment to reclaiming and revitalizing its territories.
