New Belgian ambassador starts activity in Azerbaijan
New Belgian ambassador Julien de Fraipont has met with Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Rzayev.
“Honored to have met with HE Deputy Minister Fariz Rzayev, the first formal step of my posting here in Baku. Looking forward to cooperating with the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry,” Caliber.Az reports, citing the ambassador’s message on X.
Belgium and Azerbaijan maintain a relatively strong bilateral relationship, characterized by cooperation in various sectors including trade, energy, and diplomacy. Diplomatic relations between Belgium and Azerbaijan were established in the early 1990s.
The trade relationship between the two countries has been growing, with Belgium importing Azerbaijani oil and gas and exporting machinery, chemicals, and other goods to Azerbaijan. Both nations have worked to enhance economic ties through various agreements and trade missions. Belgian companies are involved in various sectors in Azerbaijan, including energy, infrastructure, and finance. Azerbaijani investments in Belgium also contribute to the bilateral economic relationship. Azerbaijan is a significant supplier of oil and gas, and Belgium, through its ports, plays a role in the transit and distribution of these resources within Europe. Energy cooperation is a crucial aspect of their bilateral ties.
