Official: Russia awaits Ukraine’s signal to restart talks
Press Secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov has said that Russia is waiting for a signal from Ukraine to resume direct negotiations.
Peskov emphasised that Kyiv must take the first step in this process, adding that there has been no sign of such action so far, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
"Kyiv," Peskov responded when asked who should initiate the signals for resuming talks between the two countries. He further explained, "Kyiv must take some actions in this regard. There is a legal restriction. We don't see any actions at the moment."
The remarks come as tensions between Russia and Ukraine continue with no significant breakthrough in sight.
Peskov also reiterated Russia's position on the ongoing conflict, noting that the special military operation continues and highlighting the US efforts to guide the situation toward a peaceful resolution.
Despite the continuing hostilities, Peskov pointed out that President Vladimir Putin had repeatedly confirmed Russia's readiness to begin negotiations with Ukraine without any preconditions as part of its broader goal to seek a peaceful outcome. He assured that Russia's efforts in this direction remain steadfast.
