PM Sharif proposes Pakistan Chamber of Commerce in Baku to facilitate direct trade with Azerbaijan
The Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce has been established in Islamabad, which will really facilitate our bilateral trade, said Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif during the Azerbaijan-Pakistan business forum.
According to Sharif, these chambers can collect information in real time, exchange and pass it on to potential traders, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
“I think this is what we should also be doing - having a Pakistan Chamber of Commerce here in Baku so that these chambers can really, in real time, collect information, exchange this information, and pass it on to potential traders and investors, which will be very helpful,” the Prime Minister added.
Notably, on February 24, Baku held an official welcome ceremony for Pakistan's Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, who arrived for a state visit. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev greeted Sharif, and a guard of honour was presented in a square adorned with both nations' flags. Sharif laid a wreath at the Victory Monument to honour the sacrifices made during the Patriotic War, which marked Azerbaijan's 44-day war victory.
On the same day the two nations signed several key agreements, including memorandums of understanding (MoUs) in energy, customs, agriculture, environmental protection, and education. Notable agreements included those between Azerbaijan’s State Oil Company (SOCAR) and Pakistan's Frontier Works Organisation and Pakistan State Oil Company, as well as an MoU on liquefied natural gas (LNG) transactions.
Additionally, a MoU aimed at fostering collaboration between Nakhchivan and Lahore was signed, covering areas such as culture, tourism, and urban development.
