Putin: Armenia recognises Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan

Russian President Vladimir Putin touched upon the issue of Azerbaijani-Armenian relations at a plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum, Caliber.Az reports.

“Armenia has recognised Nagorno-Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan. That's it, what are we talking about here?” Putin asked.

The Russian president also touched upon the role of the Russian Federation in the negotiations between Baku and Yerevan.

“We had offered our options for settlement. We proposed to negotiate with Azerbaijan so that two districts - Kalbajar and Lachin – to remain under the de facto jurisdiction of Armenia, but the Armenian leadership did not agree with it. Although we had tried to convince the Armenian leadership for decades, when we asked what you would do, they answered: 'We will fight'. Well, okay,” he said.

Also, during his speech, Putin answered a question of whether Pashinyan called him.

“He sent me a detailed letter, we are in contact. There are no problems with Armenia and Pashinyan,” Putin said.
