Riyadh says it unites with Baku to boost energy efficiency, carbon capture dev't
Saudi Arabia highly values Azerbaijan’s successful hosting of the COP29 climate conference and is interested in expanding cooperation with Baku in various areas of green energy, the Kingdom's Ministry of Energy told Report.
“First and foremost, we would like to congratulate Azerbaijan on the successful organization of the COP29 climate conference in Baku, where a historic climate financing agreement was signed, laying the foundation for ambitious financial goals and global development in the future,” the ministry said, as reported by Caliber.Az.
The Saudi ministry noted that the two countries are currently collaborating on several initiatives to combat climate change.
“One notable example is the joint work of ACWA Power and SOCAR on constructing the largest wind power plant in Azerbaijan and the region, the Khizi-Absheron project, with a capacity of 240 MW and an investment value of $345 million. Additionally, ACWA Power and SOCAR are cooperating on the development of carbon capture and storage technologies,” the ministry emphasized.
The ministry also highlighted joint efforts on projects aimed at enhancing energy efficiency and advancing renewable energy sources, including the evaluation of a "Low-Carbon/Green Fertilizer" initiative.
“Under Saudi Arabia's 'Vision 2030' program and Azerbaijan's commitments to sustainable development, our countries share a common goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and contributing to global efforts against climate change. All implemented projects align with our national climate objectives and the Paris Agreement, which both countries have signed,” the Ministry of Energy concluded.
Let's underscore that Vision 2030, launched in 2016, is Saudi Arabia's strategic framework aimed at reducing the nation's dependence on oil, diversifying its economy, and developing public service sectors such as health, education, infrastructure, recreation, and tourism.
