Another Russian wheat cargo to reach Armenia via Azerbaijan
Seven railcars carrying wheat will be dispatched from Russia to Armenia via Azerbaijan on July 13.
A total of 490 tonnes of wheat is expected to arrive in Armenia as part of the shipment, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
These wheat shipments represent a resumption of rail transit between Russia and Armenia through Azerbaijan, which had been largely closed for over three decades.
The first such delivery occurred in early November 2025, when around 1,000-1,050 tonnes of Russian wheat in 15 railcars transited Azerbaijan and Georgia to reach Armenia, marking the initial post-Soviet reopening of this route following Azerbaijan's decision to lift transit restrictions.
This development followed the August 2025 initialling of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan (mediated in Washington) and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's announcement in October 2025 about removing barriers to cargo movement toward Armenia, as part of broader regional connectivity efforts including the TRIPP project.
Subsequent shipments have continued regularly, including grain, fertilisers, and other goods, thereby enhancing Armenia's food security by providing a more reliable alternative to routes prone to closures (such as Upper Lars via Georgia) and supporting economic normalisation.
