Russian spokesperson: Cargo to Khankendi should pass through both Aghdam, Lachin routes
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova has said that the parallel unblocking of the Lachin and Aghdam routes was not easy due to the divergence of positions and high level of mutual distrust.
She made the remarks in a comment on the passage of the Russian Red Cross Society’s truck into Azerbaijan’s Garabagh region on the Aghdam-Khankendi road, Caliber.Az reports.
"We expect that taking into account the previously reached understanding, in the near future the Lachin corridor [road – ed.] will be unblocked in parallel with the Aghdam route, and then humanitarian aid will flow to the region unhindered along both directions on a regular basis,” she said.
“We believe that in this way the humanitarian situation in Garabagh will be stabilised. This, in turn, will create conditions for the launch of dialogue between Baku and Stepanakert [Khankendi] and the resumption of rhythmic work on the implementation of the entire set of trilateral agreements at the highest level in 2020-2022 on the normalisation of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations," Zakharova said.
About 15 tonnes of food, personal hygiene items and bedding were handed over to the residents of Garabagh on September 12.
