State Department: US hopes for continuation of dialogue between Baku and Yerevan
At a regular briefing, the US State Department spokesman Ned Price responded to questions about the details of the dialogue between US and EU representatives. He was asked if the issue of the cancelled talks between Baku and Yerevan in Brussels was raised at the meeting and whether it was discussed by Macron at the headquarters or at the White House. Moreover, does the US intend to continue the work begun by the Europeans?
"Speaking of yesterday's meeting between the leaders of the United States and France, I will leave the question of any possible negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan to the White House. As you know, the United States is very actively engaged with the parties to help ensure a stable future for the South Caucasus. We have had two trilateral meetings between Baku and Yerevan with the participation of Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. He also continues to be on the phone with both sides.
At the last meeting, the foreign ministers of both states agreed to accelerate negotiations and arrange another meeting in the coming weeks. They both expressed their appreciation to the US side for organizing the meeting at the ministerial level. We are very hopeful that the dialogue and constructive atmosphere between the two countries will continue as we continue to pursue a policy of achieving lasting peace and resolving problems between the parties," Price said.
