TRT Haber: Türkiye to host 15 Palestinian prisoners in support of Israel-Hamas ceasefire deal
In support of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, Türkiye will initially host 15 Palestinian prisoners who were forced to live outside of their countries after being released from prison in the Gaza Strip.
Upon the instruction of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) has initiated efforts to bring 15 Palestinians, who had been exiled, to Türkiye via Egypt. In this context, necessary arrangements were made to ensure these Palestinians could establish a peaceful and secure life in Türkiye, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish TRT Haber.
It was emphasized that Türkiye's mission of supporting the Palestinian people will continue with determination within the framework of its vision for peace and humanitarian responsibility.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said earlier that one of the conditions of the Gaza ceasefire agreement stipulates that Palestinian prisoners should not remain on Palestinian lands after their release. According to him, President Tayyip Erdogan has instructed to receive some of the released Palestinians in Türkiye.
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, which lasted from October 7, 2023, to January 13, 2025, killed around 50,000 people and injured more than 100,000 people. In addition to the thousands of people held in Israeli prisons for years, 15,000 people from Gaza were also arrested for various reasons, the ministry adds.
In the ceasefire agreement, Israel conditioned the exile of some life-sentenced prisoners, who were released, from returning to Palestine.
