Turkish, Azerbaijani languages taught in Armenian schools
Armenian Education Ministry has stated that twelve schools in Armenia taught the Turkish language in the 2022-2023 academic year, while four taught the Azerbaijani language.
Azerbaijani and Turkish languages are studied exclusively by pupils in grades 10-12, the Ministry told the local media, according to Caliber.Az .
The Ministry also said that in the school year 2022-2023, the teaching of regional languages was organized in 33 schools, of which 13 began to learn Persian, 3 - Georgian, 12 - Turkish, and 4 - Azerbaijani. In the Mkhitar Heratsi Educational Complex, all four languages were taught in the middle and high schools.
Another 400 Armenian schools have expressed a desire to learn regional languages (Turkish, Azerbaijani, Georgian and Iranian) in the near future. However, the ministry did not provide information regarding the number of schools that chose a particular language.
"Institutions also provided information on the availability or unavailability of an appropriate specialist. Most of the schools wishing to learn a regional language do not have specialists," the agency noted.
The Education Ministry also told Sputnik Armenia that educational institutions have been informed that, if they are ready and have the appropriate specialist, they can organise regional language teaching themselves.
Previously Andreasyan stated that now all Armenian schools teach Russian, as well as any other foreign language (English, French or German) from the 2nd grade. Now, schools may choose a third language as well (if the state provides such an opportunity). In particular, attention will be paid to the languages of the regional countries.
