Turkish investment brings new jobs and industry to Aghdam Industrial Park

29 October 2024 17:49

The Turkish company Birlik Deri has officially been recognized as a resident of Azerbaijan’s Aghdam Industrial Park, which is managed by the Agency for Development of Economic Zones.

This strategic investment includes a planned injection of AZN 20.8 million ($11.7 million) to establish a leather and leather goods manufacturing facility in the park, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

This move is expected to create more than 250 local jobs and boost both domestic production and export capacity, as reported by the Agency.

The Aghdam Industrial Park now counts 28 resident companies, alongside four non-resident firms, bringing the total expected employment opportunities to 2,300 and cumulative investments to AZN 260 million ($152.9 million).

Currently, AZN 92 million ($54 million) has been invested, and over 370 jobs have been created. To support the workforce needs of these enterprises, the State Employment Agency has placed about 100 people, primarily former IDPs, in roles within the park, emphasizing the agency’s focus on regional employment and rehabilitation.

In a recent media tour led by the State Employment Agency, participants were briefed on the importance of the Aghdam Industrial Park in reviving the Karabakh region and boosting its industrial capabilities. The park’s infrastructure includes cutting-edge manufacturing equipment from Italy, Türkiye, and South Korea, supporting sectors such as food production, light industry, and services.

The establishment of the Aghdam Industrial Park is part of a larger Azerbaijani government initiative for post-conflict reconstruction and economic revitalization in the Karabakh region.

Initiated in August 2022, the 190-hectare (470-acre) park was designed to support Azerbaijan’s push for economic diversification, focusing on new production sectors and enhancing the range of goods available for export.

This industrial revival aligns with Azerbaijan’s strategy of creating dedicated industrial zones across the country to bolster the non-oil sector. Besides Aghdam, four additional industrial zones are currently operating to drive technological and economic growth.
