Turkish professors bring expertise to Karabakh University Revitalizing education
In the 2024/2025 academic year, professors Evrin Gücher and Metehan Tolon from Ankara's Hacı Bayram Veli University, a prestigious institution in Türkiye, will be teaching at Karabakh University.
Shahin Bayramov, the rector of Karabakh University, welcomed the Turkish educators and engaged in discussions regarding their active involvement in teaching, research, and management, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Bayramov also emphasized the university's strategic objectives.
On November 28, 2023, President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree establishing Karabakh University under Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Science and Education in the city of Khankendi. The university aims to address the socio-economic needs of the region by training highly qualified professionals while preserving the region's educational heritage.
For its inaugural academic year in Khankendi — marking the first time since the end of the Armenian occupation over three decades ago — Karabakh University has enrolled 1,104 students, achieving an impressive 98.5% of its capacity.
Initially, the university will offer programs across six faculties: Education, Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Economics, Engineering, and Tourism.
Currently, the university operates from three academic buildings. The main building accommodates the faculties of Education, Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, Economics, and Tourism. The Arts faculty is situated in the second building, while the third functions as the International Language Center.
Additionally, Karabakh University has launched “SABAH” groups — a specialist training network focusing on English language teaching, finance, and accounting for the first academic year.
The university employs 160 staff members, including 60 academic personnel and 100 administrative and technical staff.
Khankendi was liberated from Armenian separatist forces during a one-day anti-terror operation on September 19-20, 2023. In October, President Aliyev raised the Azerbaijani state flag in the city.
Education Minister Emin Amrullayev announced plans for around 50 educational institutions to be established in the territories of Azerbaijan recently liberated from occupation.
