Turkish shipbuilder upgrading Pakistan Navy submarines VIDEO
The Turkish shipbuilding company Defence Technologies Engineering and Trade (STM) has completed the modernisation of another French-made Agosta 90B class submarine for the Pakistani Navy, STM CEO Ozgur Guleruz told TRT Haber.
The tender to upgrade the submarine was won in 2016 in competition with the manufacturing company.
"Our company won the tender to modernise French-made Agosta 90B class submarines. Two more submarines were subsequently added to the project. The first submarine was handed over in April 2021 and the second in December 2022," said Guleruz.
According to Guleruz, the company CEO noted that intensive work is underway to upgrade the third submarine, which is scheduled to be handed over to Pakistan within two years.
As part of the project, a series of systems have been upgraded as well as extensive modernisation of the submarines, which have been in service for up to 20 years, the director general stated.
"Creating unmanned maritime vehicles is one of the company's priorities. Here too, we are striving for success. Research and development activities in this area are continuing apace," said the STM head.
