Türkiye’s FM set to hold strategic talks with Putin, top Russian officials in Moscow
Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is set to hold high-level meetings in Moscow, including with President Putin, Presidential Aide Vladimir Medinsky, and Sergey Naryshkin, head of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service.
A source at the Turkish Foreign Ministry told Russian media that Fidan plans to be received by President Putin and meet with both Medinsky and Naryshkin on May 26, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
The following day, he is scheduled to meet Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Additionally, on May 26, Fidan intends to meet members of the board of the Russian-Turkish Business Union.
The visit follows talks earlier this month in Istanbul between representatives from Russia and Ukraine regarding a possible ceasefire in the conflict. While the meeting did not yield significant progress towards ending the hostilities, it resulted in an agreement on a major prisoner-of-war exchange.
The POW swap began on May 23 and was scheduled to continue through May 24-25. Fidan is expected to reaffirm that Türkiye “stands ready to play its role as a facilitator in the negotiations,” while also addressing other regional and international matters, “including Syria, Gaza, and the South Caucasus,” Turkish media reported.
