UN rep expresses delight with construction, restoration work in Azerbaijan Statement by Executive Director of UN Programme
Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Maimunah Mohd Sharif has said that she is greatly impressed by the construction and restoration work in Azerbaijan in the post-conflict period.
Mohd Sharif made these remarks at an event dedicated to World Habitat Day, Trend reports.
“Our main goal is to create places of settlement for everyone. It is very important for the city’s economy to be stable in this sphere. I am grateful to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for his decision to hold World Habitat Day,” she added.
The World Habitat Day forum, organised as part of Urban Resilience Week 2023, is being held in Baku.
Head of the Department of Economic Issues and Innovative Development Policy under the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan Shahmar Movsumov, Chairman of the State Committee of Urban Planning and Architecture of Azerbaijan Anar Guliyev, other delegates from Azerbaijan and foreign countries, state officials and journalists are participating in the forum.
The goal of the forum is to promote knowledge sharing, policy formulation, public engagement, skills development, collaboration and strategies for implementing sustainable urban development.
World-renowned international experts and state officials are discussing the challenges of promoting qualitative urban life for everybody, as well as the development of sustainable cities entitled “Sustainable Urban Economy. Cities as a driving force for development and regeneration”.
