US confirms interest in strategic partnership with Armenia, says Pashinyan
The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Armenia, according to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
During a government session in Armenia's parliament, Pashinyan discussed the outcomes of a phone conversation held on March 25 with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
Pashinyan revealed that the US government views the enhancement of ties with Armenia as a priority, with a particular focus on regional stability and the ongoing peace settlement process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The Secretary of State underlined the critical importance of securing a peace agreement between Yerevan and Baku and bringing the negotiation process to a successful conclusion. Both leaders expressed shared optimism that the progress made so far must be preserved, emphasizing that a peace treaty must be signed and ratified promptly.
Furthermore, Pashinyan highlighted that both parties agreed on the need to prevent any escalation in the region, underscoring the mutual desire for stability.
"We agreed to continue high-level contacts between Armenia and the US," Pashinyan stated, reinforcing the commitment to furthering strategic dialogue between the two nations.
As reported earlier, during the discussion, Pashinyan briefed Rubio on the progress of negotiations that have led to a draft treaty on the establishment of peace and interstate relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The draft agreement is now awaiting formal signing. The Prime Minister reaffirmed Armenia's commitment to maintaining high-level diplomatic engagement with the United States, highlighting the mutual interest in deepening strategic relations.
The US State Department, through spokesperson Tammy Bruce, reiterated Secretary Rubio’s strong support for the peace agreement, emphasizing that breaking the cycle of conflict is essential for the prosperity of the region.
