US State Department Adviser lauds Azerbaijan’s energy strategy and reliability
Azerbaijan has emerged as a dependable energy supplier for more than a dozen countries, thanks to its strategic use of natural resources and its role in major infrastructure initiatives like the Southern Gas Corridor, according to Eric Jacobs, Senior Adviser at the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Energy Resources.
Speaking at the 11th Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and the 3rd Ministerial Meeting of the Green Energy Advisory Council, Jacobs praised Azerbaijan’s energy diplomacy and its contribution to regional and global energy security, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“Today, the Southern Gas Corridor is recognized as an outstanding achievement that showcases innovation, ambition, and cooperation,” Jacobs said.
He highlighted the significance of the corridor in expanding Azerbaijan’s energy reach: “It has allowed Azerbaijan to unlock its vast energy resources, benefiting not only its citizens but the wider region. Azerbaijan has become a reliable energy supplier for over a dozen countries.”
Jacobs drew a parallel between Azerbaijan and the United States in terms of energy potential. “Like the United States, Azerbaijan possesses significant energy resources,” he said. “President Trump has described energy as the cornerstone of American advantage and a key to national security. Using your energy wealth to create economic opportunity, improve healthcare and education, and raise the quality of life for your citizens is a mark of responsible governance.”
He noted the shifting global discourse around energy, particularly natural gas, which he said had regained prominence in international discussions. “Natural gas has returned to the forefront of global energy discussions,” he said, stressing that it is no longer viewed merely as a transitional fuel. “It is a reliable, affordable, and secure source of energy that will remain critically important for decades to come. It is the fuel of choice and a vital component in meeting the growing global demand for energy.”
Jacobs emphasized that Azerbaijan continues to view natural gas as central to its own future, as well as to the future of energy security across Europe and beyond.
In closing, Jacobs reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to international energy cooperation under President Trump. “President Trump and the United States remain committed to working with allies and partners to unlock global energy potential and to support every nation’s right to grow and prosper using its own resources,” he said. “I look forward to deepening our partnership, identifying new opportunities, and accelerating progress toward greater energy security and economic growth.”
