US State Secretary Assistant arrives in Azerbaijan
US Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs Michele Sison has arrived in Azerbaijan, APA reports, citing the US embassy in Baku.
The embassy said it is pleased to welcome Sison on a visit to Azerbaijan, who is planning to meet with government officials to discuss the US commitment to multilateral cooperation on collective global issues, APA reports.
The US official will reportedly assess efforts in areas of ongoing and potential multilateral collaboration while in Azerbaijan, including such issues as the context of the Sustainable Development Goals and climate change, food security, global health security, and resolving transnational issues.
She will also campaign for Amy Pope, the US nominee for director-general of the International Organisation for Migration.
Sison heads the US Department of State's Bureau of International Organisations. With six diplomatic missions (in Geneva, Montreal, Nairobi, New York, Rome and Vienna), the Bureau develops and implements US policy at the UN and some other multilateral organisations. Its primary mission is to advance US interests through a more effective and efficient UN and multilateral system through multilateral diplomacy.
