US unaware, not involved in assassination of Hamas leader Secretary of State says
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has stated that the United States had no prior knowledge of the assassination plot against Ismail Haniyeh, the chief of political bureau of the Palestinian Hamas movement.
Speaking to reporters, Blinken emphasized that the US was neither aware of nor involved in the operation that led to Haniyeh's death, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
"Washington did not know about the preparation of the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh," Blinken noted.
He categorically denied any US involvement, saying, "the US did not know and was not involved in the murder of one of the Hamas leaders."
Blinken also addressed the potential implications of Haniyeh's assassination on the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel. "It's hard to say yet whether Haniyeh's killing will have an impact on the conflict with Israel, but the US will seek a ceasefire," he stated.
