Western Azerbaijan Community slams Tom Lantos Commission for biased activity
The Western Azerbaijan Community is seriously concerned about the recent hearings held by the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission at the US Congress in connection with the Armenians living in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan.
Report informs that the statement came from the Community on June 27.
“The hearings have become an unfortunate chapter in the history of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission. Against the backdrop of the commission's apparent shortcomings and biases, we urge it to make meaningful efforts to recognise and protect the rights of the more than one million ethnic Azerbaijanis affected by ethnic cleansing and other crimes against humanity committed by Armenia. It is extremely important that the Commission recognises the fundamental rights of Azerbaijanis forcibly expelled from Armenia," reads the statement.
"We call on the Commission to actively engage in sincere dialogue with our community to correct shortcomings and eliminate the injustice faced by Azerbaijanis. In particular, we call on the Commission to make efforts to ensure the fundamental rights of the Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia to a safe and dignified return, which are enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,” it concludes.
