Zhoghovurd: Armenian authorities find new way to waste state budget funds

29 July 2022 10:58

By the decision of Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, an economic policy council was created, and Pashinyan itself was elected chairman.

“And so, the members of the council will visit Armenia to participate in the meeting of the Economic Policy Council, and, naturally, in connection with their visit, the expenses related to the arrangement of travel, accommodation, meals, ceremonial and other events will be paid from the state budget. First of all, we note that among the members of the council there are professors from Spain, the US, Israel and other countries, and the expenses for their stay in Armenia will be covered by the state budget,” Caliber.Az informs, citing the Armenian Zhoghovurd newspaper.

“What will the newly created council do? The purpose of the council is to develop appropriate recommendations and projects regarding the socio-economic situation of Armenia and submit them to the country’s prime minister.

Of course, at first glance, this council can do important work, but, as is often the case, either the decisions made will remain on paper, or they will not be adopted at all, instead, funds from the state budget will be spent to receive and accommodate members of the council. In fact, the authorities have found another way to squander the state budget.

Former Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan also spent huge amounts on consultations. For example, specialists from Africa came to advise Armenian farmers on how to grow Armenian apricots. Nikol Pashinyan seems to be following this path,” the newspaper writes.
