Iran, Armenia to hold high-level talks to accelerate peace accord
Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced that senior Iranian and Armenian officials are set to hold high-level talks on August 12.
The discussions aim to clarify recent developments and allow Iran to convey its perspectives and concerns directly to the Armenian government, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
In a press briefing on August 11, Baghaei reaffirmed Tehran’s commitment to fostering close and constructive relations with its neighbours in the South Caucasus, particularly Azerbaijan and Armenia.
He emphasised that Iran values friendly ties based on good neighbourliness and mutual interests, and remains actively engaged with regional developments, especially those that have direct or indirect implications for Iran.
On the matter of Armenia, Baghaei confirmed that talks on finalising a peace agreement have been ongoing for some time and are not a recent initiative.
Both parties have previously been encouraged to expedite the signing of this accord, which is regarded as a vital step toward enhancing peace and stability in the Caucasus region.
