Detained Armenian saboteurs were plotting terrorist attacks in Azerbaijan Official statement/Details

On May 26, Azerbaijani border guards foiled an attempt by a sabotage and reconnaissance group of the Armenian armed forces to violate the state border at the conditional border of Azerbaijan and Armenia near the village of Razdere in the Zangilan district of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

According to Caliber.Az, the Prosecutor General's Office, and the State Border Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan made the due joint statement.

The servicemen promptly discovered the group and detained two saboteurs.

It has been established that the detained – servicemen Harut Yurikovich Khovakimyan and Karen Ashotovich Gazaryan – with other members of the sabotage group on May 26 at about 16:00, fully armed and with ammunition, illegally crossed the state border in order to commit sabotage, terrorist attacks, murders, destruction of property, incitement of hostility, as well as firing at servicemen of the State Border Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

In fact, a criminal case was initiated under articles 206.3.2 ("Smuggling, by a group of persons by prior agreement"), 214.2.1, 214.2.3 ("Terrorism, that is, the commission of explosions, fires or other actions (terrorist acts) that pose a death threat to people, damage to their health, causing significant property damage or other socially dangerous consequences, for the purpose of violating public safety, sowing panic among the population or influencing decision-making by state authorities or international organizations, as well as the threat of committing such actions for the same purpose, by a group of persons by prior agreement, an organized group or a criminal association (criminal organization), with the use of firearms and items used as weapons"), 228.2.1 ("Illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation or carrying of weapons, components ammunition, explosives and explosive devices, by a group of persons, by prior agreement"), 283.2.1 ("Open actions aimed at inciting national discord, with the use of violence") and 318.2 ("Illegal crossing of the State border of the Republic of Azerbaijan by an organized group") of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The Investigation Department of the General Prosecutor's Office is in charge of the investigation.

Kharut Yurikovich Khovakimyan and Karen Ashotovich Ghazaryan are involved in the investigation as suspects.
