Indonesian envoy: Karabakh demonstrates sustainable development
Karabakh demonstrates how post-conflict regions can turn reconstruction challenges into opportunities for sustainable development, Indonesian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Berlian Helmy said during the 13th session of the World Urban Forum in Baku.
Speaking at a panel on climate challenges and urban solutions in conflict-affected regions, the ambassador said Indonesia supports international efforts aimed at linking climate resilience, peacebuilding, and sustainable urban recovery, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Helmy welcomed the proposed Smart, Sustainable Settlements for Safe Return Package (4SRP), describing it as an important framework for addressing the interconnected issues of climate change, reconstruction, and urban development in unstable environments.
“We view the proposed 4SRP package as an important framework for addressing the interrelated challenges of climate change, peacebuilding, and sustainable urban development in contexts of instability,” he said.
The ambassador also praised the large-scale reconstruction and restoration work underway in Karabakh following years of conflict.
“I visited Karabakh and was impressed by the rapid pace of transformation in the region,” Helmy said, adding that the rebuilding efforts reflect the innovative and inclusive recovery approach promoted by UN-Habitat.
According to the diplomat, the experience of Karabakh illustrates how post-conflict recovery can contribute to long-term sustainable development and regional stability.
Helmy added that Indonesia remains committed to supporting international dialogue, experience-sharing, and cooperation on climate-resilient and “peace-positive” urban development solutions.
