Official: Deputy prime ministers of Azerbaijan, Russia, and Armenia to meet soon

31 May 2023 16:54

A meeting of the Azerbaijani, Russian, and Armenian deputy prime ministers on the unblocking of transport communications in the South Caucasus will be held in the near future, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk said.

A trilateral meeting between the leaders of Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan was held in Moscow on May 25. It was reported that trilateral talks at the level of deputy prime ministers will take place in a week to discuss the unblocking of transport communications in the region.

"Today it has been agreed that this working group will meet in the very near future. The issues that will be considered concern technical details related to the modality of crossing the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The point is that there will be a passport, customs, and all other types of control at this border, which exist at international borders," Overchuk said while taking a question from Interfax.

He noted that the sides "today are very close to saying that we can restore the railway connection between the western regions of Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan".

"Armenia also gets the opportunity to unblock and move through Nakhchivan, Syunik, Azerbaijan to Russia, other EU countries, it is also possible to reach Iran," Overchuk said.
