ANAMA neutralizes 1,406 unexploded ordnances in Azerbaijan’s Karabakh
The Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) has released its weekly report detailing significant progress in demining operations conducted between September 8 -14 across the liberated regions of Azerbaijan.
According to the agency, comprehensive clearance efforts in multiple districts—including Tartar, Aghdam, Aghdara, Lachin, Fuzuli, Shusha, Khojaly, Khankandi, Kalbajar, Khojavand, Jabrayil, Gubadli, and Zangilan—have led to the detection and neutralization of 118 anti-personnel mines, 11 anti-tank mines, and an additional 1,406 unexploded ordnances, Caliber.Az reports.
These operations have effectively rendered safe a vast expanse of land totaling approximately 1,333.8 hectares, substantially reducing the threat posed by residual explosive hazards.
Since the end of the 2020 war, 399 people have been killed or injured by landmines, adding to a toll of over 3,400 victims since the 1990s—including many women and children. ANAMA has cleared roughly 140,000 hectares, yet large swathes remain contaminated.
