Armenian FM praises TRIPP as multi-layered initiative with wide benefits
Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan described the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP) as a multi-layered project with wide-reaching benefits.
“TRIPP connects Central Asian countries with the EU, links Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan, and connects Armenia with Central Asia and Western countries,” Mirzoyan said while presenting the Joint Statement on the framework for implementing TRIPP, approved the day before in Washington, Caliber.Az reports per Armenian media.
He emphasised that everything discussed has been documented in the statement. “There is no condition that was proposed, discussed, and agreed upon that has not been published for any reason. This is not a final document, but it is very important. It serves as an intermediate step between the August 8 Declaration and the final document,” Mirzoyan said.
According to the minister, Armenia’s role as a transit and regional hub will increase, creating more opportunities for foreign investment and for local companies to cooperate internationally. He stressed that TRIPP’s success depends on institutionalising peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, normalising Armenian-Turkish relations, US engagement, and regional stability.
Mirzoyan also highlighted that Armenia retains full sovereignty and jurisdiction over all TRIPP infrastructure. The safety and security of the route will be entirely ensured and monitored by Armenia, and no decisions will be made without the country’s consent.
“Under the agreement, Armenia’s customs and border authorities will carry out all sovereign procedures according to Armenian law. Final customs decisions, clearances, security checks and enforcement, migration control, law enforcement actions if necessary, issuing permits, and inspections—all will be conducted exclusively by authorised representatives of the Republic of Armenia,” he said.
Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), also referred to as the Zangezur Corridor, is a key regional infrastructure initiative designed to connect mainland Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan exclave through Armenia’s Syunik (Zangezur) region.
The project was formalised on August 8, 2025, in Washington with a declaration signed by the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia alongside US President Donald Trump.
TRIPP serves both as a peace-building measure and a strategic transit corridor. It envisions new railways and roads, oil and gas pipelines, fibre-optic networks, and electricity lines. The broader objective is to link South Caucasus nations to the “Middle Corridor” trade route between Europe and Asia, enhancing regional transit, trade, and economic diversification.
