Azerbaijan eases citizenship procedure for nationals living in conflict zones
Azerbaijan has introduced measures to simplify the process of granting citizenship to its nationals residing in conflict-affected countries.
This initiative, which began in 2024, aims to support Azerbaijani citizens in regions embroiled in wars and conflicts, providing them with easier access to Azerbaijani citizenship, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
According to a report from the Cabinet of Ministers, the move is part of the government's efforts to protect Azerbaijani citizens from the dangers posed by ongoing conflicts. The report also highlights efforts to enhance consular legal assistance for those affected by military conflicts, religious extremism, human trafficking, and other difficulties abroad.
The report further notes that the repatriation process for Azerbaijani nationals continued throughout 2024.
Last year, members of the Milli Majlis, (parliament), called for enhanced legal support for Azerbaijanis living abroad and recommended the introduction of certain privileges to ease the process of obtaining Azerbaijani citizenship.
