Azerbaijan expands trade with Germany and China, records decline with Türkiye
Azerbaijan’s foreign trade dynamics in the first eight months of 2025 reflected growth with Germany and China, while trade volumes with Türkiye declined.
According to the State Customs Committee, cited by Caliber.Az, the volume of mutual trade between Azerbaijan and Germany reached $1.032 billion, showing a 5.2% increase compared to the same period of 2024.
Azerbaijani exports to Germany rose by 5.4% to $465.99 million, raising their share in the country’s total exports to 2.73%, up from 2.42% in the previous year. Imports from Germany also increased, rising by 5.1% to $566.87 million, although their share in Azerbaijan’s overall imports fell slightly to 3.77% compared with 4.23% in 2024.
Trade turnover with China rose more sharply, reaching $2.941 billion in January–August 2025, which represents a 28.4% increase year-on-year.
Exports from Azerbaijan to China grew 4.5 times, amounting to $60.12 million. Their share in Azerbaijan’s total exports climbed to 0.35%, up from only 0.07% in the same period of 2024. Imports from China rose by 26.5% to $2.88 billion, with their share of Azerbaijan’s total imports increasing to 19.14% from 17.84% a year earlier.
In contrast, trade turnover with Türkiye declined to $3.845 billion in the first eight months of 2025, a 7.9% decrease compared with the same period of 2024.
Azerbaijani exports to Türkiye fell by 14.1%, totalling $2.291 billion and reducing their share in the country’s overall exports to 13.43%, down from 14.63% a year earlier.
Imports from Türkiye showed growth of 3.1%, reaching $1.553 billion, but their share in Azerbaijan’s total imports dropped to 10.32% compared with 11.8% in 2024.
These figures underline significant growth in trade relations with China, steady progress with Germany, and a contraction with Türkiye, one of Azerbaijan’s largest traditional trade partners.
