Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO) is actively engaged in cleaning the surface of the Caspian Sea, including the Baku bay, to improve the sea’s ecological condition.
As a result, 40.11 cubic meters of various rubbish and items were collected and handed over for processing and disposal, Caliber.Az quotes ASCO Spokesman, Mehman Mehdiyev, as saying.
The ASCO constantly focuses on minimising the negative impact of liquid and solid emissions generated following the operation of ships and the activities of coastal facilities on water sources, soil, and atmosphere.
From January to April in 2022, 21,014 cubic meters of plastic, 165,011 cubic meters of food waste, 118,364 cubic meters of household waste (rags, paper and cardboard, glass, metal, and other waste), 24.92 cubic meters of operational waste, 109 cubic meters of oil residues, 1,237 cubic meters of bottom bilge water, 22,073.7 cubic meters of household sewage were handed over for recycling and disposal with the help of ASCO ships.
During this period, 102.4 cubic meters of oil sludge formed at the bottom of the tanks, 4.2 tons of burnt foundry sand, 418.16 tons of abrasive (a mixture of rust, paint, gravel, and sand removed from the ship's hull), 19,131.66 tons of household sewage, 105 tons of oily bilge water, 38.34 tons of lubricating oil, 783.03 cubic meters of household waste (paper and cardboard, wood, rags, glass, metal, bottles, etc.), 264.82 cubic meters of food waste, 143.85 cubic meters of polymer and plastic waste, 26.05 cubic meters of oily and petrochemical waste, 38.25 cubic meters of various rubber waste, 27 batteries and galvanic cells, 123.8 cubic meters of operational waste, 8.71 cubic meters of electronic waste, 0.203 cubic meters of medical Waste from ASCO's coastal facilities were also handed over accordingly.
In addition, during the specified period, 25.95 cubic meters of objects of various sizes were collected and handed over from the surface of the Baku Seaside National Park and the company's coastal activities.
In general, for the first 3 months of 2022, 0.473 tons of paper, 0.128 tons of plastic, 4042.219 tons of ferrous metal, 2.376 tons of non-ferrous metal were sent for processing.
