Azerbaijan, Pakistan discuss future of military-technical cooperation
On October 29, Azerbaijan's Minister of Defence Industry, Vugar Mustafayev, met with a delegation led by General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of Pakistan, who is on an official visit to the country.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Defence Industry, Mustafayev emphasised that the friendly and brotherly ties and strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Pakistan are on the rise, Caliber.Az reports.
He noted that military-technical cooperation with Pakistan is beneficial for the development of Azerbaijan's defence industry.
As co-chair of the Azerbaijan-Pakistan intergovernmental commission, Mustafayev provided detailed information to the guests about the commission's work and preparations for its upcoming meeting.
The parties discussed ways to further expand military-technical cooperation between Azerbaijan and Pakistan, exchanging views on various issues of mutual interest.
Moreover, on October 28, Azerbaijan's Minister of Defense, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, hosted a delegation led by General Sahir Shamshad Mirza. The Pakistani delegation began their visit by paying respects at the Alley of Shehids (Martyrs) in Baku, honouring those who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan's independence and territorial integrity.
General Hasanov warmly welcomed the Pakistani delegation, emphasising the fraternal ties and military relations between Azerbaijan and Pakistan. He highlighted the importance of strengthening bilateral and trilateral military cooperation with Türkiye and briefed the delegation on the current operational situation along the Azerbaijani-Armenian border.
General Mirza expressed gratitude for the hospitality and underscored the value of mutual visits in enhancing military cooperation. He also extended congratulations on Azerbaijan’s Victory Day, observed on November 8.
In a separate meeting on October 29, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and General Mirza discussed the future of bilateral and multilateral relations, focusing on cooperation in political, economic, defence, and security sectors.
They acknowledged the significance of mutual support in various multilateral frameworks and discussed potential interactions between Azerbaijani and Pakistani leaders at the upcoming COP29 climate conference. Overall, the meetings reinforced the commitment to deepening relations between Azerbaijan and Pakistan across multiple domains.
