Azerbaijan repatriates 13 citizens from Syria in coordinated rescue mission
Thirteen Azerbaijani citizens were successfully repatriated from Syria on June 3 as part of a phased and coordinated initiative led by the government of Azerbaijan.
The operation, aimed at facilitating the return of Azerbaijani nationals caught in conflict zones abroad, involved the identification and verification of the individuals’ identities and citizenship. Once confirmed, their transfer to Turkish territory was organized with the support of relevant state agencies, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.
Representatives from Azerbaijani governmental bodies responsible for the repatriation of citizens from conflict areas in Iraq and Syria were dispatched to Türkiye. Upon arrival, the repatriates underwent comprehensive medical and psychological evaluations to assess their condition and needs.
"The Azerbaijani Embassy in Türkiye coordinated all logistical aspects of the mission," the Foreign Ministry stated. "Our citizens were issued return certificates and flight tickets, enabling their safe return to Azerbaijan."
The Ministry further noted that the next phase will focus on the social rehabilitation and reintegration of the returnees, ensuring their smooth transition back into Azerbaijani society.
“The Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan will continue to take necessary measures for the repatriation of its citizens who became victims of armed conflict on the territory of foreign countries,” the statement concluded.
