Trade attaché: Azerbaijan, UK discuss new infrastructure projects
Cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom is moving to a strategic stage, Elvin Raziyev, Infrastructure and Third-Country Cooperation Trade Attaché at the British Embassy in Baku, told Report.
According to him, the two countries have reached an agreement to transition to a strategic partnership format, with negotiations already held at the level of heads of state.
“A number of major infrastructure projects are currently under discussion. An official statement will be made once a joint decision is adopted. Water infrastructure is also being considered as one of the possible priority areas. Outdated networks are regarded as one of the main causes of water losses, so modernisation projects in this sector are under review,” he said.
The trade attaché emphasised that the £5 billion financial package allocated by the UK’s export credit agency is comprehensive in nature and covers the infrastructure sector as a whole, rather than any specific industry.
According to Raziyev, the distribution of funds will depend on the selected priorities. “If priority is given to the water sector, a significant portion — or even the entire amount — could be allocated to it. The final decision will be made in line with strategic objectives. At this stage, the funds are being considered as a general infrastructure package,” he noted.
