Azerbaijan unveils strategic transport shift with Zangezur corridor launch

Azerbaijan is committed to diversifying its transport corridors, with the development of the Zangezur corridor marking a significant step toward regional integration and expanded freight capacity.

Speaking at the 5th Tbilisi Silk Road Forum, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Digital Development and Transport, Rashad Nabiyev, emphasized the transformative potential of this strategic initiative, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

"The Zangezur Corridor is no longer merely a subject of discussion — it became a tangible reality on August 8 of this year," Nabiyev stated. He underscored that the corridor will contribute an additional 15 million tons to the region’s overall cargo transit capacity, significantly enhancing logistical connectivity.

Highlighting Azerbaijan’s broader strategic vision, the minister noted the country’s strong interest in diversifying its transportation routes to strengthen resilience and boost economic cooperation across the region.

In a notable development, Nabiyev also pointed out that, for the first time since gaining independence — and following the conflict with Armenia — Azerbaijan has allowed the transit of Armenian grain through its territory, signaling a potential thaw in regional trade dynamics.
