Azerbaijani FM engages in crucial diplomatic discussions at UN Assembly PHOTO

25 September 2024 12:46

On September 24, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov held a meeting with Margus Tsahkna, the Foreign Minister of Estonia, during the High-Level Week of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.

According to the press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, the discussions centred around the prospects for both bilateral and multilateral cooperation, as well as the current regional dynamics in the aftermath of recent conflicts, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

The ministers underscored the significance of nurturing bilateral relations rooted in mutual respect and productive collaboration. They highlighted the necessity of regular political consultations between their Deputy Foreign Ministers to further enhance political dialogue.

Minister Bayramov provided a comprehensive overview of Azerbaijan's efforts in organizing the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Azerbaijan, expressing the country's readiness to collaborate with Estonia during the session.

The Estonian minister was briefed on the current realities in the region post-conflict, including the ongoing normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Throughout the meeting, both sides exchanged insights on various issues of mutual interest, strengthening the dialogue between their nations.

On the same day, Bayramov sat for another significant discussion with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset.

The talks centred on the current agenda between Azerbaijan and the Council of Europe, as well as the prevailing regional situation. Bayramov emphasized Azerbaijan's commitment to cooperating with Council of Europe institutions, grounded in dialogue and mutual respect.

He noted that the January decision by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to withhold ratification of the Azerbaijani delegation's powers is not only unjustified and evidently biased but also detrimental to the dialogue process.

The Foreign Minister asserted that all disagreements between the parties should be addressed through dialogue, mutual respect, and understanding, which he emphasized is the expectation of the Azerbaijani side from the Council of Europe and its institutions.

Additionally, Minister Bayramov provided a comprehensive overview of the current situation and realities in the post-conflict period, detailing the progress of the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The meeting concluded with both sides exchanging detailed views on other matters of mutual interest, reinforcing the importance of ongoing dialogue.
