Azerbaijani Parliament leader discusses relations with Pakistani, Russian ambassadors
Chairman of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, held a meeting with Qasim Mohiuddin, Pakistan's Ambassador to Azerbaijan, according to the Milli Majlis Press and Public Relations Department.
During the meeting, Gafarova expressed her satisfaction with the robust development of relations between Azerbaijan and Pakistan, highlighting the friendly and brotherly ties that exist between the two nations, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.
She noted that the current level of strategic partnership offers significant opportunities for future collaboration.
The Milli Majlis Speaker extended her gratitude to Pakistan and its parliament for their unwavering support of Azerbaijan on the international stage, particularly during the 30 years of occupation of Azerbaijani territories and in the restoration of the country’s territorial integrity. She reiterated Azerbaijan's steadfast support for Pakistan regarding the Kashmir issue, advocating for its resolution based on United Nations resolutions.
The discussion underscored the vital role of inter-parliamentary relations in strengthening bilateral ties. Both sides acknowledged the importance of official and business visits between parliamentary leaders, as well as the cooperation of deputies within international parliamentary organizations.
Preparations for the upcoming 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Azerbaijan were also addressed. Gafarova labelled any political manoeuvring surrounding COP29 as unacceptable and emphasized the event's significant public relevance. The ambassador was informed about the Parliamentary Conference that the Milli Majlis will host in collaboration with the Inter-Parliamentary Union during COP29, highlighting it as a key platform for parliamentarians to exchange views on climate change.
Ambassador Qasim Mohiuddin conveyed the greetings and best wishes of the Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan to Gafarova, reaffirming that Azerbaijani-Pakistani relations are rooted in historical and brotherly ties that will persist into the future. He noted that Pakistan was among the first countries to confirm its participation in COP29 and expressed confidence that Azerbaijan would host the event successfully.
Mohiuddin emphasized that Azerbaijan's position has consistently adhered to justice, international law, and UN Security Council resolutions, with Pakistan always supporting it. He further acknowledged the significance of Azerbaijan's backing of Pakistan concerning the Kashmir issue.
Commending Azerbaijan's efforts to tackle global challenges such as climate change, the ambassador expressed his belief that Pakistan would be well represented at COP29, facilitating enhanced global discussions on climate issues.
The meeting also included discussions on other topics of mutual interest.
Speaker Gafarova also had a fruitful meeting with Mikhail Yevdokimov, the Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan. Both parties expressed satisfaction with the strong development of bilateral relations, emphasizing the crucial role of mutual visits at the highest state level in enhancing ties. They highlighted the positive impact of Russian President Vladimir Putin's state visit to Azerbaijan in August and President Ilham Aliyev's two visits to Russia in October on the dynamism of relations.
The conversation also covered the development of relations between the legislative bodies of both countries and their successful cooperation within various international parliamentary organizations.
Both sides expressed confidence that these cooperative efforts would continue to thrive in the future.
Additionally, the meeting addressed preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
