Baku, Berlin explore cooperation in religious education

18 September 2025 20:22

Baku and Berlin have discussed opportunities for cooperation in the field of religious education, highlighting the promotion of interfaith dialogue and multicultural values.

The discussions took place between Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of Azerbaijan’s State Committee for Work with Religious Organisations, and Mayssoun Zein Al Din, Executive Director of the Academy of International Politics of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, the Committee reported, Caliber.az reports via local media.

The meeting focused on advancing cooperation in religious education, promoting dialogue between cultures and religions, and sharing best practices for interreligious engagement.

Mammadov highlighted Azerbaijan’s initiatives to strengthen interfaith dialogue on international platforms and provided an overview of the country’s approach to regulating state-religion relations, ensuring freedom of religion, and safeguarding multicultural values.

He also noted that Azerbaijan is home to over 2,000 mosques, 16 churches, and 7 synagogues. The preservation of historical and cultural heritage, national spiritual values, and the restoration of religious and cultural monuments were also emphasised.

Al Din praised the country’s consistent financial support for religious organisations and underscored the importance of promoting Azerbaijan’s model of multiculturalism.
