Baku Initiative Group denounces Netherlands's colonial policies amid biased resolutions
The Baku Initiative Group (BIG) has issued a statement on its X page condemning the Dutch Parliament's adoption of two unilateral and biased resolutions against Azerbaijan on October 10, 2024.
“On October 10, 2024, the House of Representatives of the Dutch Parliament adopted two unilateral and biased resolutions against Azerbaijan, with the Dutch Foreign Minister expressing support for these resolutions,” Caliber.Az quotes the statement as saying.
According to BIG, the adoption of resolutions that distort historical and current facts by the Dutch Parliament is not surprising to the Baku Initiative Group, which has long been exposing the Netherlands’ colonial policies filled with crimes,
“The Netherlands continues its colonial practices in Bonaire, Sint Maarten, Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Eustatius, and Saba, pursuing a deliberate policy of assimilation. The Dutch government expels local populations from the islands, replacing them with Dutch settlers, treats the indigenous people as second-class ‘citizens,’ persecutes and imprisons independence supporters, bans native peoples from receiving education and speaking in their mother tongues, neglects to provide conditions for preserving their cultures, and commits numerous other crimes,” the statement reads.
“Considering the above, the Baku Initiative Group invites the Dutch Parliament to call the Government of the Netherlands to put an end to the crimes committed on the islands of Bonaire, Sint Maarten, Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Eustatius, and Saba.
In this regard, we call on for the establishment of a relevant Investigation Commission to hold the perpetrators of these past and ongoing crimes accountable.
Additionally, we call on the European Union countries to support the creation of an appropriate body under the United Nations Human Rights Council to monitor crimes committed on the mentioned islands and ensure that documented cases are submitted to other UN bodies.
We also invite the international community to support initiatives against colonial crimes, particularly the activities of the Baku Initiative Group,” the BIG stated.
