Baku TV premieres emotional documentary on AZAL plane crash tragedy VIDEO
A gripping new documentary produced by Global Media Group and Baku TV takes an in-depth look at the tragic crash of an AZAL passenger plane, which occurred near Kazakhstan’s Aktau on December 25 last year.
The plane, en route from Baku to Grozny, met its fateful end in mid-flight, and the film, titled "J2-8243: The Last Flight", delves into the emotional and heroic stories that followed the disaster, Caliber.Az reports.
The documentary is divided into four parts, each shedding light on a different facet of the tragedy. The first part brings to life the stories of the fallen crew members — Captain Igor Kshnyakin, First Officer Alexander Kalyaninov, and flight attendant Hokuma Aliyeva — whose exceptional professionalism is remembered by their grieving families.
The second part, "Everything Will Be Fine," features the survivors, including crew member Zulfugar Asadov, who recount their harrowing experiences. These survivors offer a deeply personal look at the events, sharing their struggles and their remarkable resilience.
Aktau, the third part, focuses on the eyewitnesses who witnessed the disaster firsthand. From Kazakhstan’s rescue teams to journalists and local citizens, their testimonies paint a vivid picture of the chaos and the incredible efforts to save lives in the aftermath of the crash.
The final part reflects on the events that followed the catastrophe, including President Ilham Aliyev’s swift return from Russia and his emergency meeting to address the national crisis. Political experts, analysts, and AZAL representatives contribute their insights, offering a detailed account of the government’s response and actions taken in the wake of the tragedy.
The documentary also highlights the heroic recognition given to the deceased and surviving crew members, who were posthumously honored by President Ilham Aliyev. The Azerbaijani government’s swift and compassionate actions, including the medical support provided to survivors, are also underscored, with many interviewees expressing heartfelt gratitude.
Concluding with the ongoing investigation into the causes of the crash, the film reveals that official findings have not yet been made public.
Directed by Kübra Uygun Sertdağ, with cinematography by Bahruz Abbasov and produced by Arzu Safarova, the documentary offers a compelling narrative of courage, loss, and resilience. The project was led by Iman Madzhidov.
